Stingers Vinyl Release of "This Time Around" plus one year
anniversary gig
Happy Holidays and New Year!! I've got some things to celebrate and
want to share it with you.
Mossburg Music
has just put the finishing touches on a RED VINYL release of the new Stingers
album, calling it "Regards to You." They have chosen the top
songs and the record is about to go to press. New look, new order,
quality vinyl for you DJs and collectors out there! This is also on the
heels of our upcoming European tour in May. Check back for dates as

Also, for those of you in the NYC area, please join me for my one-year
anniversary gig at Espresso

Three pieces of BIG NEWS
Since I've had a lapse in news reporting, I've compiled some exciting
stuff!
First, a Stingers European tour for May 2009 has been announced. We
will be heading to some of our favorite haunts in the continent and will be
touring with the great Contra Coup out of Austin, TX. We will tour in
support of our latest release, "This Time Around" (see it to your
right). Check the calendar or www.myspace.com/thestingers
for updates.
Second, I have written a track for the great ska singer Doreen Shaffer of
Skatalites fame. The track is called "Dear Conscience" and it
will appear on a CD/12" called "Love I Can Feel." The CD
is an exciting benefit record for the American Cancer Society. It
features many great singers who wrote original tunes over the classic
"Love I Can Feel" rhythm. Other artists include Clinton Fearon,
Contra Coup, General Smiley, Chris Murray, and more. It will be released
on Mossburg Music in early 2009. Please check www.mossburgmusic.com
for updates.
Third, RokkaTone has been selected for a showcase at the 2009 South by
Southwest music conference. Date and Venue TBA.

The triumphant return of the Band from Queens is official. We will be
playing a CMJ showcase at The National Underground on October 22. 45
minute set of my original folk/blues material in quartet formation.
I've also picked up a bass playing gig with a band called The Chrome
Hearts, a Neil Young tribute band. The band features my good friend Eddie
Ocampo on drums (ska/reggae studio man with Vic Rice, among others) and a host
of good players that I am excited to make music with. We are also
debuting at Two Boots in Park Slope on November 21st.

You can take me away from Austin, but not for long. This July, I'll
be spending a full month playing gigs and working on some leftover recordings
in my beloved Ausitn, TX. Look for the first RokkaTone gigs in almost a

Agent Jay Nugent (Slackers, guitar) and I just recorded a version of the
Highway 61 classic "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" out in Bed Stuy,
BKLYN. Drumbeats changed, lyrics shifted and personalized, the new
version is called "Just Like Agent Jay's Blues," and can be found

Jonny on new Slackers record "Self
Medication"
Last November, in an attic in New Jersey, I recorded a few killer tracks
with The Slackers' vocalists Vic Ruggiero and Glen Pine. These tunes now
appear on their latest LP release "Self Medication" (Indication/Red
Eye). Many consider The Slackers to be the leading ska/rocksteady
band due to relentless touring and consistent production of great, original
music. I am proud to have been a part of the new record and look forward
to doing more work with those guys soon. To check out the CD, click

Reunited (and it feels so good)
After returning to Queens, Jonny is reuniting with fellow guitar player
Joey K Filardo and bass player/booking pinoeer Ira Berman. Jonny, Joey
and Ira picked up guitars together as teenagers in Forest Hills, played over
100 gigs together in several bands (does anyone remember the BLUE BONES), and
even opened for Bo Diddley and Wilson Pickett together on the same bill. Now Jonny
and Joey are once again putting a band together to perform Jonny's original
folk and blues material. The band is set to debut on April 30th at the Knitting
Factory, which has been booked by ol' pal Ira and his company
nycgigs.com.
